Term 3 Clay works

Throughout Term 3, stage 3 students worked on designing a house made out of clay. The house was two dimensional, being built upon a slab of clay, however a three dimensional element was required as students needed to build up features of their house in additional layers. After designing their house, students made templates to ensure each layer was cut evenly. Using techniques such as rolling, score and slip, we made the clay houses and allowed them to air dry before going into the kiln. We then painted them using glaze and put them in the kiln again.
Throughout this term we investigated how clay is referred to in the Bible and discussed various passages in small groups. We discovered that God is like a potter and we are like clay. He has moulded each one of us with a particular purpose in mind. We were so encouraged that God doesn't make mistakes and He has great plans for each one of us!

Stage 3 Visual Arts - Fun with Clay

This term, Stage 3 are working with clay. They began by creating house templates and had a trial run with playdough. This week the students created their clay house. It is now air drying for a few weeks, then will go into the kiln before glazing at the end of the term. What was your favourite part of making your clay house?
